FLAG PROJECT

To honor our flag and all it means, the Rotary Club of Deland has, as one of its signature projects, the Flag Project.
The Flag Project comprises putting out U.S. flags along Woodland Boulevard and New York Avenue in Downtown DeLand on patriotic holidays:  Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Patriot Day, Veterans Day and Pearl Harbor Day.  Additionally, we put out the flags on Election Day.  Typically, beginning at 7:30 in the morning, we put up about 100-125 flags and retire them at 4:30 in the afternoon.  Anyone is welcome to help in this very rewarding effort.
As flags fly in the breeze, they are subject to wind, rain and sunshine, all of which contribute to the flags’ deterioration over time.  Periodically, we need to replace some of the flags.  Indeed, even the poles upon which the flags hang suffer from the elements and require repairs or replacement.  If you would like to contribute to our Flag Replacement Fund, please send a check to the Rotary Club of DeLand, P.O. Box 704, DeLand, FL 32721.
The Flag Project is just one of the activities that Rotary Club of DeLand members participate in to exemplify the Rotary Motto, “Service Above Self.”  For more information about the Rotary Club of DeLand, check out our website www.delandrotary.org.
